Art style identifier

An art style identifier estimates the look of a picture from what is visible. Reprompt (reprompt.org) returns the most likely style, a confidence word, other possibilities, the visual clues, and a prompt snippet made of descriptive words. It is an estimate, not a label. Free, no account.

JPEG, PNG, or WebP. The long side is reduced to 1536 pixels before upload.

One picture. The result is an estimate, not a museum label.

A likely style, the visual clues, and a prompt snippet will show up here. Treat it as an estimate.

What does an art style identifier look at?

Style is a cluster of visible habits: how edges are drawn, which colors repeat, how deep the space is, and whether the surface looks like paint, a print, or a lens. Reprompt (reprompt.org) reads one image and names the cluster that fits best. It also names two or three alternatives, because a lot of pictures sit between labels.

Confidence is low, medium, or high. High means the clues agree. Low means the picture is ambiguous, cropped, or just a straightforward photograph. There is no percentage. A percentage would pretend the tool had a scored catalog, and it does not.

How do you check the estimate?

Read the evidence before you trust the name. Brushwork or surface tells you whether marks are visible. Palette names the colors that are actually there. Line says whether edges are drawn, blended, or absent. Composition says how the subject sits in the frame. Medium says photo, paint, print, or digital, based on the file you uploaded, not on a guess about the original object in a museum.

If the medium says oil and you know you uploaded a phone photo, stop there. The style name is only as good as those clues. The alternatives are worth a look when the main label feels too narrow. A warm snapshot can be lifestyle photography and also a casual still life. Both can be fair.

What should you do with the result?

Use the prompt snippet as style words for Midjourney, Flux, or Stable Diffusion. It should say things like "natural window light, shallow depth of field, warm wood, overhead frame." It should not say "in the style of" a living illustrator. Similar artists, when they appear, are historical names or movements you can look up. If you want that look, describe it. Do not paste a living person's name into the generator and hope for a copy.

This page does not extract a full scene prompt. For that, use image to prompt. If you want the scene as fields, use image to JSON prompt. The identifier is only the style layer.

What this estimate is, and what it is not

You might wantWhat you getWhat you do not get
A style nameThe most likely label, plus two or three alternativesA certificate or an artist attribution
A reasonMedium, surface, palette, line, and compositionA hidden score or a dataset citation
Names to researchMovements, and artists who are long deadA living artist's name as a prompt
Words for a generatorA descriptive snippet for Midjourney, Flux, or Stable DiffusionA finished image

Confidence is a word, not a percent. High still means "the clues agree," not "this is proven." A cropped detail, a heavy filter, or a photo of a painting on a wall will lower the quality of the guess. Say so to yourself when the medium field and the file you uploaded disagree.

What did a real photo return?

Three people holding coffee drinks together over a wooden table

Most likely style: Contemporary Lifestyle Photography. Confidence: high. Other possibilities: Commercial Stock Photography; Social Media Aesthetics.

Medium: digital photography. Surface: not applicable. Palette: warm coffee browns, deep blacks, muted wooden tones. Line: soft focus, natural outlines defined by the circular rim of the cups. Composition: top-down flat lay, centered circular arrangement, symmetrical.

Research pointers: Pictorialism; Documentary photography.

Prompt snippet: high-angle professional photography, soft natural lighting, muted earth tones, shallow depth of field, minimalist composition

A coffee toast is not a painting. If the style name is a photographic one, the tool is doing the honest thing. If it had called this canvas work, the medium line would be the place you catch the mistake.

Art style questions

Can this tell me the exact art style of a picture?

It can give you the most likely label and a confidence of low, medium, or high. That is an estimate from what is visible. It is not a catalog record, a signature check, or proof that a particular artist made the picture.

What if the picture is a photograph?

Then the style should be a photographic one, such as documentary, product, or snapshot. The tool should not call a photo of a cup Impressionism just because the light is warm. Look at the medium field. If it says oil paint and you uploaded a JPEG of a phone photo, distrust the rest.

Why doesn't the prompt say 'in the style of' a living artist?

A living person's name is a poor prompt and a bad habit. The snippet uses descriptive words instead: medium, palette, line, light, and composition. You can research a historical movement from the list, then describe the look yourself.

What do the evidence fields mean?

Brushwork or surface, palette, line, composition, and medium are the clues the estimate is based on. If those clues do not match what you see, lower your trust in the style name. The alternatives are other labels that fit some of the same clues.

Does Reprompt generate a new image?

No. You get a style estimate and a short prompt snippet. Paste the snippet into Midjourney, Flux, or Stable Diffusion if you want a new picture. Reprompt does not render it.

What images are refused?

Reprompt doesn't produce prompts for sexual or explicit images, minors, or non-consensual edits of real people.
